In northern climes, October is a month of preparation for winter, once marked by hunting (the month is also called Hunter’s Moon) and animal slaughter, (also Blood Moon in certain pagan traditions). The Celts, on the other hand, called the month Gort (go-ert) or Ivy Moon, seeing ivy’s ability to live on after its host plant has died as a reminder that life continues after the harvest - in the endless cycle of life, death and rebirth.

Honestly, I’m going all out on the ivy lol, since ivy was traditionally used in sympathetic magic for healing and protection, given its ‘binding’ symbolism and its associations with longlasting life. Ivy has the ability to scale any obstacle. This little plant is so tenacious, it can pull down buildings - so it tells us all to keep going & never underestimate our strength.

In Welsh, my name means ‘tall’ and there’s a Welsh phrase, ‘Tal i ti’, that means ‘keep going’, ‘good for you’, ‘you can do it’. It implies a kind of surge of growth or development, all of which reminds me of the power of ivy.
