BREAKING THE SILENCE!Happy April & Happy Spring!First, I’m incredibly sorry for my long absence - I’ve been struggling with both the new book and home circumstances, and I’ve a default habit of disappearing if I don’t have good things to share lol. After having to give up on my moving plans, I’ve been trying to fix up my current rental and reconnect with trans & queer community where I am. We’re all worrying about rights & healthcare of course, which are under attack in the UK (England especially) as in the US. Today, I’m just tucked up in bed feeling shit after my latest covid jab!Anyway, it’s full moon, Easter and spring - and about time you guys had a newsletter!🔵What to expect in this one:1.Transition stuff2. The Sam Gillespie Expansion Pack HOLIDAY SPECIAL (NSFW!!!): a calendar of queer joy, some… uh… bunnies, Pens & Paint, Chocolate Goodies (cough), Queer Artist of the Month & an Easter card not for your granny 😉🏳️⚧️TRANSITION STUFF🏳️⚧️ Now nearly 6 months post-surgery and the pain’s gone except for bruised feelings behind my nipples. I’ve some hypertrophic scarring so am using silicon gel for that, but all in all it’s good - I’m really happy with the results and it’s a big relief. I’m halfway through a 100 press-up challenge (100 press-ups for 100 days) recommended by fellow author Kelvin Young, and definitely seeing some benefits! I should also be receiving my GIC appointment soon (I was originally told April-July 2025) but we’ll see. I’m hoping that’ll put me in a marginally better position to protect my healthcare, but honestly it’s hard to know at the moment. The government are making some sort of announcement on it soon but, so far, none of the government’s “announcements” about trans people have been good - whether that’s in healthcare, sports, ‘free speech’ or anything else. They recently announced they plan to legislate for everyone to declare birth-assigned gender on all legal documentation and even on research data that has nothing to do with gender. Non-binary isn’t allowed on passports as it is, but they’re proposing deleting it and ‘Other’ from government/council forms (etc) and only giving two gender options (birth-assigned gender being the only permissible answer). Trans groups are appealing it. As some people already know, I’m strongly considering stepping away from writing to join that fight - but I’ve decided there are two stories I want to put out first: my current WIP and a short for an anthology later this year. I’ll then take stock and see how I feel. Anyway, the increased testosterone dose has dropped my voice further and given me lots of teenage spots lol 🙄😅 but also a LITTLE more hairiness and more appropriate weight redistribution. Beard still not what I want (more chinstrap for now) but patience is the watchword and honestly it’s just good to see changes again. It had felt like all that had stopped. 💜 🏳️⚧️

New WIPSoooo - as mentioned above, I’ve been having some problems here, and every time I think I’ve solved them and can get writing, I find I haven’t. So I’ve been back to the drawing board more times than I can count. The main issue is that I’m trying to do a particular thing with one of the characters & haven’t managed to do it yet - but it’s a book I really want to put out and a story I really want to tell - so hopefully, I’ll get there! Anyway, I don’t have a working title at the moment, other than “Witch Story”, but I’ll let you know a bit more when I do! FB group: Tal Frost’s Werebears & Wyrdlings |

Easter - Eggs, Hares & Moons:Gender non-conforming hares, you say? But first, eggs! There’s a popular belief eggs must be to do with ancient fertility goddesses. But the egg thing most likely is just because eggs were banned for Lent (hence eating piles of pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent starts). The idea of an egg-delivering bunny is more complicated though… There was, it seems, a popular belief that hares laid eggs, itself springing from a belief that the hare started out as bird and was changed by the gods into a quadruped, hence its weird, jack-knifing movements and incredible speed. Why though, you may ask, would anyone think hares laid eggs? In fact, for many centuries, folk believed hares were hermaphrodites, that both sexes bred, that they had a second set of teats inside their wombs, and that fur grew in their mouths. All this was eventually fully disproved in the 19th century, but (a) HUZZAH FOR GENDER NON-CONFORMING HARES and (b) hares are almost unique in their ability to be pregnant AND conceive at the same time. So it’s easy to see why this ability to carry 2+ foetuses at different growth stages simultaneously, as well as the fact they produce four litters a year, made them a symbol of springtime fertility and weirdness - and the perfect carrier of the Lord’s eggs. We have the French & Germans to thank for making them chocolate 😋 Anyway, the Anglo-Saxons called the month Eostur-monaþ (Easter month) and it’s also Alder month, called Fearn by the Celts - a time for spiritual decisions, prophecy, divination and getting in touch with the inner spring of your intuitive processes. |

To give you some context, my friend, David Yancey, showed me this video years ago that I'll never forget. The video depicted, from what I can recall, a gentleman cosplaying as a rabbit for Easter. The video at first seemed rather innocent—simply a guy showing off with his butt exposed towards the camera. And then, my eyes notice an egg being slowly push out of his butt and plops on the ground—a literal egg. I was simultaneously shocked and impressed. Of course, I forwarded it to all my friends. I've wanted to preserve that memory ever since and I thought this Easter of 2022 would be the perfect opportunity to recreate it. Here we have an attractive gentleman dressed in the most minimal Easter bunny outfit I can imagine. He lays, for the camera, a golden egg. In the background we see a basket of other eggs he has produced. But the one he just laid is the one we've all been waiting for. All my life, I thought only hens lay golden eggs. I was wrong. — Aligned with Rome Pride 2022, this piece was shown in the "Ultraqueer" exhibition within the Palazzo Merulana museum in Rome, Italy. This landmark exhibition aimed to challenge the long history of oppressive principles set by the heteropatriarchal binary system, promote identity self-reflection, and raise awareness of homotransphobic and intersectional discrimination.
