I’m actually a day late doing this, as I’ve decided that from now on I’m going to send you each newsletter on full moon and include a bit of mythology, moon-related or otherwise, that ties in to the Hammer Falls series…

Random extra: Those of you who join me on Facebook (Tal Frost’s Werebears & Wyrdlings) have probably seen my #MusicMonday posts, in which I share a song that reminds me of one of the characters, scenes or relationships - so far we’ve had Nate (I Don’t Wanna Get Over You), Jin (Lovesong), Sam (When My Boy Walks Down the Street), Marshall (Jesus Doesn’t Want Me For a Sunbeam) and, most recently Ashmedai (Idiot Prayer). All of these are rammed with secret little clues, none more so that that last one (even, in passing, the ‘They’re gonna launch me into the stars, all things come to pass’ line - he doesn’t get launched into the stars in The Tree of Life but it’s a great little reference to something from Ashmedai’s past!). All of this is making me sooo desperate to get The Tree of Life written 😂!!!!!!

1. Moons, Crows and Things of Ash

Called the Worm Moon by Indigenous Americans, after worm trails that appear on the ground as the earth thaws at the end of winter, other March moon names include Death Moon, Seed Moon and (my personal favourite) CROW MOON - since the cawing of crows signalled the end of winter. And cos Nate, obvs 🙄

We’re also, according to the Celtic Tree Calendar, in the month of the Ash Moon. In the Norse Eddas, the world tree Yggdrasil is usually portrayed as an ash, its wood also forming formed the Spear of Odin. Ash was one of the three trees sacred to the Druids (along with Oak and Thorn). There are of course Norse rune associations throughout the books, plus an Odin carving outside the House of Crow. Nate also uses a spear. And the last book is called The Tree of Life.

2. New website section on the way!

Quick heads-up, whether you’d like to contribute or just explore, I’m planning to add a new section to the Bonus Content page to my website this month, for art created by others! One person has already sent me some fabulous book boards they’ve made, which will be going up, and I’m hoping to be able to add over time - so please feel free to email contributions to tal@tal-frost.com 😊 I’m going to call it Fan Art to distinguish from official Character Art that I’m ALSO hoping to add later this year!!

3. MM+ Longlist

For those who don’t know, I came across some pretty silly criticisms of books over 140K generally, so decided to build a list of good MM+ 140K+ reads, which is now also on my website: https://tal-frost.com/blog - If you enjoy longer reads, please do give it a look as there are some awesome MM+ books on there, and if you have any suggestions for books you think should be included, please let me know via any of the usual means! 😉

Control is a 2.5, to be read AFTER Sons of Heaven & Hell (Hammer Falls: 2) as it’s spoilertastic. It follows another relationship whilst giving us a bit more of Nate at the Seminary and hinting at things to come in The Tree of Life!

Grappling with a terrible truth only he knows, Leo Crow is doing all he can to prove his loyalty to the shadowy, controlling Seminary whilst keeping his siblings safe. Three things are working against him: his guilt about things he couldn't stop, a brother who won't stop researching things he shouldn't and sexy, carefree Zeke, who seems to be bringing everything up that Leo wants to keep crushed down. As Zeke tries to get closer and Leo tries to keep his distance, who will prevail? And what will the consequences be?
